Dodson & Horrell 0.95m, 1.05m and 1.10m National Amateur Second Rounds at Port Royal Equestrian Centre

Competitors came together at Port Royal Equestrian Centre in Holme on Spalding Moor, York this weekend to contest the Dodson & Horrell 0.95m, 1.05m and 1.10m National Amateur Second Rounds.
Each of the combinations came forward with the hope of picking up one of the twelve direct qualifying places on offer for the Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Championships which will be held at Aintree Equestrian Centre in Liverpool later this year (18th – 22nd November).
Dodson & Horrell 0.95m National Amateur Second Round
Fourteen of the twenty-six starters made it through to the jump off in this second round and it proved to be an ultra-competitive with eight combinations going on to produce double clears.
Adding to their success from last weekend in the 0.85m second round at Leamside Equestrian was the combination of Samantha McNicholas from Darlington, County Durham with her own 13 year-old chestnut gelding Vayrann. Samantha and Vayrann lead the jump off from the start after laying down the gauntlet with a double clear in 34.06 seconds. This was a result that was to prove unbeatable.
Second place was taken by Sophie Shepherdson from Scarborough, North Yorkshire with her own 9 year-old grey gelding Park Pippin. This combination produced their second foot perfect round in just 35.07 seconds to give them their place inside the top two.
Katie Benbow from Goole, North Humberside took third with her father Simon’s 9 year-old chestnut mare Ruby St Loise after they produced their double clear in 35.17 seconds.

Dodson & Horrell 1.05m National Amateur Second Round
In a seven horse jump off, just three double clears were produced, the fastest of which came from Amy Jimmison from Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Amy was on board her mother Nadine’s 12 year-old bay gelding Whidor. An early draw in the jump off saw this combination set the standard for the rest of the class after they delivered a double clear in 41.20 seconds. Their time also gave them nearly three seconds in hand.
Sally Sheldon from Huddersfield, West Yorkshire finished in second on her own 8 year-old chestnut mare Portphilip Touch Dow. Two foot perfect rounds from this combination saw them return home with their double clear in 44.09 seconds.
The third and final double clear was secured by Nicola Roe from Alfreton, Derbyshire with her own 10 year-old chestnut mare Kisses. This combination produced their second foot perfect round in 47.57 seconds.

Dodson & Horrell 1.10m National Amateur Second Round
Angela Mills from Haswell, County Durham enjoyed a successful second round after taking the top two places. Her victory came on board her own 11 year-old bay gelding Quids In II after they produced the quickest double clear of the class in 38.24 seconds.
Angela then went on to take second place on her own 9 year-old chestnut mare Gibside Emily. Bagging another double clear, Angela clocked this one up in 38.53 seconds.
Third place went to the only other combination to jump a double clear. Lyndsey Halder from Scarborough, North Yorkshire rode Keano, an 18 year-old dark bay gelding owned by Paula Halder. This combination jumped their double clear in 43.63 seconds.
