Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Second Round at Topthorn Arena

The 1.00m Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Second Round at Topthorn Arena in Stowmarket, Suffolk was popular and attracted 24 starting combinations for the second round held on Saturday 27th October 2012. Following months of competition in the Dodson & Horrell National Amateur First Rounds, riders were competing in order to qualify for the Championship Final.

All of the combinations starting in the Dodson & Horrell 1.00m National Amateur Second Round were hoping to secure one of the twelve direct qualifying tickets on offer for the Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Championships, which take place at Aintree International Equestrian Centre in November 2012.

From the total number of starters, eight combinations made it through to the jump off and with six combinations achieving a double clear, the places came down to the times.

The top spot was taken by 26-year-old Monica Ballard from Sittingbourne, Kent and she won this second round on board her own eight-year-old chestnut mare, Miss Cartier. The combination flew over all seven fences in the jump off in a time of 28.85 seconds to seal the win and a place in the Championship Final.

Monica Ballard had a successful run in this second round as she also took second place, this time on board 14-year-old Amazing Grace, also one of her own rides. The combination produced their clear in a time of 30.98 seconds.

Third place was secured by 27-year-old Alison Lee from Fakenham, Norfolk and she achieved her place in the Championship Final on board her own 13-year-old gelding, Suzuki. A faultless round in the jump off in a time of 32.22 seconds was enough to ensure a top three finish.

A further five riders also achieved their qualification for the Dodson & Horrell 1.00m Championship Final.
