Last week, equestrians across the UK came together to celebrate Equine Health Week 2025, in partnership with the British Equestrian Federation (BEF) and Agria. Running from 17th – 23rd March 2025, this dedicated week focused on raising awareness and providing invaluable guidance on equine care, management, and welfare.
Why Equine Health Week Mattered
Horses are athletes, companions, and trusted partners, and ensuring their health is at its best is a responsibility every equestrian shares. Equine Health Week highlighted key aspects of horse care, focusing on the lifecycle of the horse and what you can do to promote mental and physical well-being at each of the key stages, from conception until the very end.
With support from top vets, equine nutritionists, physiotherapists, and welfare experts, the British Equestrian Federation provided horse owners with the latest knowledge and best practices in equine health.
Highlights of the Week
Throughout the week, the BEF and its partners delivered a series of educational podcasts and informative social media campaigns. Some of the key topics covered included:
- Breeding and foals – Starting at the very beginning – breeding, pregnancy and the first few months of a foal’s life
- Early Days – How to get the weaning process right and how to provide the best environment for your young horse to grow up in
- Producing young horses – Giving your young horse the best start to their ridden career
- Holistic husbandry – Managing strategies you can take to ensure you’re giving your horse the best possible life
- Success in the saddle – How you can build a partnership from the saddle and support your horse to perform at their best
- Older horses – How to tailor your horse’s management as age catches up with them, so you can keep them happy and comfortable in their golden years
- End of life – A topic that nobody likes to think about, but one that many will have to go through at some point
Looking Back
Equine Health Week 2025 was more than just a campaign—it was a reminder of our ongoing responsibility to our horses. By staying informed and proactive, we all played a part in maintaining the highest standards of equine welfare in the UK.
With Equine Health Week 2025 now behind us, we look forward to future initiatives that continue to support the health and happiness of our horses.
