Jess Hewlett is the Bemer Young Rider of The Year
Wednesday 20 September 2023

After 8 stops all over Europe, Jessica Hewlett is the winner of the Bemer Young Rider Tour, an international jumping series for Under 21 riders. Having finished in the top five of three of the legs, Jessica completed the tour on 46 points, 12 points ahead of joint second place riders Thiabaut Keller and Joana Schildknecht, both from Switzerland.
The aim of the BEMER Young Rider series is to give good European riders in the Under 21 age group extended opportunities to compete on the established BEMER Riders Tour platform in the future.
As a result of this winning this accolade, Jessica will be able to choose four CSI International shows in 2024 to attend, a particularly valuable prize when it comes to making the challenging jumping from youth events to senior sport.
Throughout this tournament, Jessica rode her own 10-year-old chestnut gelding, Ilmar HBC aka Kenny, with whom she also won the National Under 21 Final at the British Showjumping National Championships in August.
Commenting on her success, Jessica said: “I stepped out at the beginning of the year, and I said I really wanted to ride in the Nations Cup team. That was already a high aim I thought. So now I have won the BEMER Young Riders Tour, I couldn’t be happier. It’s been my best year. Kenny has been the best partner ever this season. He’s been unbelievable and so consistent. I love him so much.”
Clare Whitaker, Youth Team Manager said: “Jess has done incredibly well at the top of the league, and it is a testament to her hard work.”
