Chris Moyce claims the SEIB Winter Novice Championship Qualifier at Crofton Manor Equestrian Centre

The second of this season’s SEIB Winter Novice Qualifiers took place on Sunday at Crofton Manor Equestrian Centre near Fareham, Hampshire. Just over half of the initial starters produced a clear first round over Course Designer Matthew Hoskins’ twelve fence track but it was Chris Moyce from Canterbury, Kent who eventually took the top spot.

Twelve combinations went through to contest the jump-off with hopes of gaining one of two qualifying tickets on offer for the Championship Final at the Longines Royal International Horse Show, Hickstead. Faults occurred all over the course for eight of the competitors but the remaining four went on to complete with a clean sheet and the eventual top two combinations were split the narrowest of margins.

Chris Moyce rode his own and Mary Fouhy’s Brambley Boy, a 6 year-old British bred gelding by Beowulf, to the win with two textbook clears. They completed their jump-off round in a very fast time of 38.12 seconds to edge ahead of Milly Cornock and Just Do It I, a 5 year-old Dutch bred gelding by Harley VDL who is owned by Paul Connor. Milly and Just Do It I crossed the finish line just 0.22 of a second slower than Chris in 38.34 seconds.
