Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Second Round at Arena UK

The Blue Chip Pony Newcomers second rounds continued this weekend on Sunday 23rd June 2013 at Arena UK in Grantham, Lincolnshire. The class was held during the Pony Premier Show and the class saw 79 eligible starting combinations come forward to compete.

Up for grabs at this second round were two direct qualifying tickets for the Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Championship Final at the Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) and all of the starting combinations were aiming to take one of these tickets home.

From all of the starters, 21 combinations produced the double clear required to make it through into the final jump off and 10 combinations then went on to produce an all important treble clear. Those treble clears meant that the places were eventually decided by the times.

The winner’s spot was taken by 14 year-old Harry Charles from Hampshire, who was on board the 10 year-old grey gelding, Murkas SL Safo IV, owned by Peter Charles MBE and Team Murka. Harry produced his third clear in 36.45 seconds in a closely fought jump off to beat the rest of the competition.

Second place went to 14 year-old Charlie Dawson from North Humberside. Charlie was riding Loobeen May, a 5 year-old dun mare owned by Jayne Warde-Adlam. The combination produced their treble clear in 36.91 seconds.

The first two pony and rider combinations, disregarding those already qualified, will qualify for the Horse of the Year Show. The first five, disregarding those already qualified, will qualify for the Alexanders Horseboxes British Showjumping Scope Festival 2013. Ponies and riders that jump a treble clear also qualify for the Alexanders Horseboxes British Showjumping Scope Festival 2013.
