BRITISH BREEDING TRIUMPHS AT THE BRITISH YOUNG HORSE SHOW WITH ARGENTO WINNING THE 7 YEAR OLD CHAMPIONSHIP

The British Young Horse Championships took place at Addington Manor from 4th - 7th August and were hailed a huge success. The Show was a viewing venue for the BEF Equine Pathway, selecting horses with a view to the 2010 World Championships and the 2012 London Olympics. Also the selection for the FEI World Breeding Championships for Young Horses to be held at Zangersheide, Lanaken, Belgium on 24th to 27th September 2009.
The BSJA/BEF Equine Pathway, supported by the World Class Programme through UK Sport and Lottery Funding, offered a prize fund which was shared between all the horse and rider combinations that consistently jumped fault free rounds over the three days of the Show. The four year old British bred and non-British bred horses were the first to compete for the Championship title. There were a total of seven British bred double clears and 8 non-British bred which meant they all shared first place as there was no timed round.

The five year old non-British bred championship was won by Old Lodge’s chestnut gelding, Zalza II. Zalza II partnered by twenty one year old Nicole Pavitt jumped two perfect rounds in a jump off time of 40.58 seconds. Old Lodge also managed to secure a second Championship, this time it was their chestnut gelding, Faize with rider Steven Franks. The pair were crowned the five year old British Bred Champions after jumping two rounds in a jump off time of 43.63 seconds.
Philip Miller on Diana & Penny Cornish’s bay gelding, Text Back took the six year old non-British bred Championship. Text Back and Philip were the only combination to not lower a rail however unfortunately they had two time faults. The six year old British bred championship went to the Billy Stud’s grey gelding, Billy Laden. Billy Laden ridden by twenty year old Daniel Moseley jumped the only clear but unfortunately had 1 time fault.
The seven year old Championship combined British bred and non-British bred horses. The Championship was won by Keely Durham & Clare Whitaker’s dark bay stallion Argento ridden by John Whitaker. The pair jumped two faultless rounds in a jump off time of 51.53 seconds.
