British Dominate FEI 2* Classes at the London Global Champions Tour

Sunday 09 June 2013

The final day at the Longines Global Champions Tour in the Olympic Park, London saw British Riders continue their domination by winning all bar one of the FEI 2* classes that mostly took place in the mornings prior to  the FEI 5* classes commencing.

FEI 2* Results
The first class of the day today, Sunday 9th June, was a 1.30m Jump Off class and it was 16 year-old Jake Saywell from Newark with the 8 year-old black gelding Special K IV that stole the show.  An incredibly hard fought class with seventeen of the fifty two riders going clear, it was never going to be an easy class to win; yet Jake managed it a style that belies his age such is his talent.   Jumping clear and just half a second faster than fellow British rider Jo Pay from Essex he managed to relegate her to second place with the 16 year-old bay gelding Goodman For Fun II.

With Jake winning the first class this morning it meant that British riders had won every FEI 2* class taking place at the show up until this point.  Wins had come yesterday from Kayleigh Watts in the 1.15m Jump Off class with her 10 year-old mare Blush with 2nd, 3rd and 4th place being secured by fellow Brits Lara Whiteway, Kathleen Widdowson and Samantha Gibbins respectively.

Friday had seen Northamptonshire based Sophie Fawcett take podium position in the FEI 2* 1.45m Jump Off Class with Rembrandt Blue, an 8 year old grey gelding.  The same class had also seen Jake Saywell high in the placings having just been pipped to the post by .05 seconds to put him into 2nd place. 4th and 5th place were taken by Jo Pay with Goodman Accobado and Goodman for Fun II.  In the 1.15m speed class it was 18 year-old Lara Whiteway from Lancashire that had the Union Flag flying once again by putting in the fastest clear with the 11 year-old bay stallion Obelix Z.  The 1.25/1.35m Speed Class saw two Brits head the line up with Florence Bellm and the bay gelding Southbound taking 1st place having shaved 1.25seconds off Kayleigh Watts time with Blush.

The Opening Day had seen Lara Whiteway and Obelix Z secure their first win of the show in the 1.10/1.15m speed class with Alicia Store and the 11 year old bay mare Diva Z take 4th.  Lara’s win was then mirrored by Jake Saywell in the 1.25/1.30m speed class with Special K IV.  Fellow Brits Claire Beecroft with her 11 year-old grey stallion Voodoo II and Florence Bellm took 3rd and 4th place respectively.  The final class on the first day, a 1.40/1.45m speed class was won by James Davenport and the 12 year-old grey gelding Carrento Ztar, with Jo Pay taking 3rd and 4th place respectively with Goodman For Fun II and Accobado.
