British Showjumping Coaches selected for National Development Programme in Coaching Excellence

British Showjumping is delighted to announce the six British Showjumping UKCC level 3 coaches who have been selected for the cross-discipline National Development Programme for Coaching Excellence 2017/18.

Amanda Routledge, Claire Read, Jemma Whitlam, Jenny Mitchinson, Rowena Ockendon Day and Victoria Baker have all been selected due to their outstanding attitude to developing grass roots participation, and also their outlook on learning and the importance of continuous professional and personal development.

The five coaches join the National Development Programme for Coaching Excellence (NDPCE) which is aimed at those working with adults and young people who participate in equestrian sport for competitive recreation purposes. Developed in collaboration with the British Equestrian Federation, the Coach Development Action Team and led by British Showjumping, the programme recognises the importance of high performing coaches working with grass roots riders.

In its second year, the NDPCE is a 12-month calendar of seminars and practical workshops for coaches selected from British Showjumping, British Dressage, British Eventing and The Pony Club. All coaches are UKCC Level 3 or equivalent with a special interest in sustaining and growing participation in equestrian sports.

The coaches met for the first day of the programme at The Unicorn Trust, Stow on the Wold last Thursday (30 November 2017). During the morning, they took part in sessions to help analyse their training needs and develop effective personal development plans. They also spent time defining what excellence in coaching means.

In the afternoon, guest speakers included the most recent UKCC Level 4 graduate, Tom Graham who led an informative and lively presentation and discussion. Tom shared his top six priorities for coaching excellence, along with the learnings gained from the research he carried out while studying for his Level 4.

More information on the programme can be found here.
