BRITS TAKE THIRD IN ST GALLEN AND RETAIN SECOND PLACE ON LEADERBOARD

Great Britain has finished in third place in this afternoon’s third leg of the 2010 Meydan FEI Nations Cup, taking place in St Gallen, Switzerland.

The first round produced only four clear rounds, and once again it was the ‘on-form’ French squad who led at the halfway mark, laying claim to two of the four clears.

The British contingent found themselves in third place after the first round on a total score of fifteen penalties. Pathfinder Peter Charles with Murka’s Pom d’Ami, the first of the British to enter the arena, jumped a superb clear round only to clock up an unfortunate single time penalty. Ben Maher and Robin Hood W came next and crossed the finishing line on a total of nine penalties. Michael Whitaker and GIG Amai II finished on a total of seventeen penalties to become the discard score, whilst anchorman John Whitaker and Peppermill were unlucky to finish with five penalties.

The second round saw Peter and Murka’s Pom d’Ami drop a hind foot on the back rail of the final oxer for a very unlucky four faults whilst Ben and Robin Hood W pulled out all the stops to produce a fantastic foot perfect clear round. Michael Whitaker and GIG Amai II were sadly unable to start, however John Whitaker and Peppermill emulated Ben’s second round performance, also chalking up another foot perfect clear and securing third place.
