Chloe Aston Makes the Under 21 at HOYS Look Easy

Wednesday 09 October 2013

Chloe Aston, aged 19 years from Hertfordshire won the Young Riders Championships of Great Britain title earlier this afternoon at Horse of the Year Show.

With Quiet Easy 4, a 9 year old chestnut gelding owned by Quainton Stud with whom she also won an Individual Bronze Medal at the Young Rider European Championships earlier this year she led a nine strong jump off to seal the deal.

Chloe has been a force to be reckoned with on horses since an extremely young age.  She took the World title for Children on Horses at the age of 13 years, was a member of the Team that won Gold at the Children on Horses Championships in 2007 and 2008 and is now in her second year of heading the GB Young Rider Ranking List.  Last night also saw Chloe awarded by British Showjumping as their Young Rider of the Year for the second time having won it in 2012 at their annual awards ball.

Nine riders had come forward to jump again for the title having jumped clear in the first round.  With many of the countries leading riders having qualified jumping clear again was never going to be enough. Speed was definitely going to be the deciding factor and it was here where Chloe had the edge by stopping the clock at 33.43 seconds with all fences left standing.

Hot on her heels was Jessica Mendoza with her John Roberts 12 year-old brown mare Spirit T.  Jessica who has consistently won medals at Pony and Children on Horses European Championships for Great Britain was pipped to the post by Chloe with her faultless round in a time of 34.2 seconds.   Third place went to Graham Gillespie with Ben Wentink’s Velheer II.
