Derek Morton crowned National 1.25m Restricted Rider Champion

After a well-fought class with 59 starters, it was Derek Morton from Stoke-on-Trent who was crowned the National 1.25m Restricted Rider Champion on day five at the British Showjumping National Championships, held at the NAEC Stoneleigh in Warwickshire.

Aboard nine year old bay mare, Double Dutch CKV, the combination won the class out of the 17 riders who had made it through to the jump off, going clear in a time of 42.58 seconds.

Many riders were having trouble with the turn back to the Connolly’s RED MILLS fence causing them to catch a pole or have a refusal. However, Derek commented: “You needed to respect that fence and make the time up else where. I know this mare inside out so I knew the best route to take.”
