Dodson & Horrell 0.90cm and 1.00m National Amateur Second Rounds at Little Kennerley Farm, Isle of Wight

Two Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Second Rounds were held at Little Kennerley Farm in the Isle of Wight on Sunday 6th October 2013. The venue hosted a 0.90cm second round and a 1.00m second round took place and all of the competitors were hoping to collect one of the twelve direct qualifying places on offer for the Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Championships, which take place at Aintree Equestrian Centre in Liverpool during the 14th – 17th November 2013.

The 0.90cm National Amateur Second Round saw six starting combinations begin their qualifying campaign and from these combinations, four made it through to the jump off. The jump off saw four double clears achieved, leaving the clock to become the crucial factor in deciding the places.
The win was taken by 40 year-old Karen Begley from Ventnor, Isle of Wight on her own 8 year-old bay mare, Spring Thyme. Karen won this second round by a clear margin of over three seconds. Karen produced a double clear from her mare in 40.48 seconds to top the leaderboard.
Second place went to 42-year-old Sharon Waghorn from Ventnor, Isle of Wight and Sharon produced her double clear on board Harlequin II, a 12-year-old skewbald gelding, owned by Karen Begley. Sharon rode two accurate rounds to seal this double clear in 43.58 seconds.
Sharon also finished in third on another of Karen Begley’s horses. Sharon claimed third on the 17 year-old bright bay mare, Dutch Passion. This combination produced their double clear in a time of 47.52 seconds.
One more riders also achieved their qualification for the Dodson & Horrell 0.90cm National Amateur Championship Final.

Dodson & Horrell 1.00m National Amateur Second Round.
This 1.00m National Amateur Second Round attracted five starting combinations, but only one combination achieved the first round clear needed to secure a direct qualification place for the Championship Final. With only first round clear having been produced, there was no requirement for a jump off.
This second round was therefore won by Karen Begley, who was also the winner of the 0.90cm second round. In this round, Karen was on board Dubai Star, a 14 year-old bay gelding owned by Sharon Waghorn. Karen’s first round clear was clocked in a time of just 86.11 seconds.
