Both of the second rounds proved to be well contested and all entrants were hoping to collect one of the twelve direct qualifying places on offer for the Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Championships, which take place at Aintree Equestrian Centre in Liverpool during the 14th – 17th November 2013.

This 0.90cm second round proved popular with eligible combinations, with forty-four starters coming forward to vie for a place in the Championship Final. The jump off was well contested by the twenty-two combinations that produced a first round clear. Eleven subsequent double clears were achieved and the clock proved to be crucial in deciding the order of results.

Sophie Corney (17) from South Humberside on her own 17 year-old bay mare, Ocean Breeze II, took a narrow victory in this second round. Sophie produced a double clear that was just 0.05 seconds faster than her nearest rivals. Sophie and Ocean Breeze II clocked up a fantastic time of 31.73 seconds.

Just 0.05 seconds behind the leaders was 17 year-old Lydia Parrott from Staffordshire on her own 8 year-old bay roan gelding, Pipsqueek T. This combination produced a fast double clear to finish on 31.78 seconds.

Third place was taken by 24 year-old Kate Brettell from Shrewsbury, Shropshire and she was on board Double or Quits II, her own 8 year-old dark brown gelding. Their double clear was delivered in a time of 34.05 seconds.
