Dodson & Horrell 1.00m and 1.15m National Amateur Second Rounds at Bishop Burton College

Competitors enjoyed the chance to compete in a Dodson & Horrell 1.00m National Amateur Second Round and a Dodson & Horrell 1.15m National Amateur Second Round on Sunday 13th October 2013 at Bishop Burton College in Beverley, East Yorkshire.

All of those competing in these two second rounds were aiming to collect one of the twelve direct qualifying places on offer for the Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Championships, which take place at Aintree Equestrian Centre in Liverpool during the 14th – 17th November 2013.

Thirty-four starting combinations came forward to contest this Dodson & Horrell 1.00m National Amateur Second Round and of all the starters, thirteen made it through into the jump off. Ten combinations went on to achieve a double clear, leaving the clock to decide the order of results.

The winner’s spot was taken by 19 year-old Lauren Roseberry from Houghton Le Spring, Tyne and Wear. Lauren was on Dark Dutchess, a 5 year-old dark bay mare owned by Joanne Roseberry. Having been drawn as the penultimate combination for the jump off, Lauren and Dark Dutchess snatched a late victory by producing a double clear in 32.39 seconds.

In second was 17 year-old Sophie Corney from South Humberside on her own 17 year-old bay mare Ocean Breeze II. This combination delivered their double clear in 32.88 seconds, securing a top two finish in the process.

Sophie Corney enjoyed a successful second round competition as she also secured third place on another of her own rides. Sophie took third on Stanhopes Good Friday, a 13 year-old brown mare. Sophie clocked another double clear, this time in 33.83 seconds.

A further nine riders went to achieve their qualification for the Dodson & Horrell 1.00m National Amateur Championship Final.

Dodson & Horrell 1.15m National Amateur Second Round.
This 1.15m second round was contested by fourteen starters, six of whom went through to the jump off. A total of four double clears achieved.

Alana Stonehouse (19) from Middlesbrough, North Yorkshire took the win in this second round on Gin, her own 10 year-old bay gelding. The combination went on to produce the only sub 34.00 second double clear of the class, they stopped the clock on 33.57 seconds.

Second place was secured by 17 year-old Chelsea Skelton from Lincolnshire. Chelsea was on board Caramba, a 6 year-old bay gelding owned by janet Elvin. Chelsea and Caramba rode an immaculate jump off round to finish on a double clear in 34.77 seconds.

Third was taken by 19 year-old Lucy Wilson from Wetherby, West Yorkshire on Rimilithius, a 15 year-old dark bay gelding owned by Andrew Wilson. In order to secure their top three finish, the combination produced a double clear in 36.11 seconds.

Three more riders also went to achieve their qualification for the Dodson & Horrell 1.15m National Amateur Championship Final.
