Dodson & Horrell 1.00m and 1.15m National Amateur Second Rounds at Hill House Equestrian

Qualified competitors got the opportunity to enjoy competing in a Dodson & Horrell 1.00m National Amateur Second Round and a Dodson & Horrell 1.15m National Amateur Second Round on Saturday 19th October 2013 at Hill House Equestrian in Market Rasen, Lincolnshire.

All of those competing in these two second rounds were aiming to collect one of the twelve direct qualifying places on offer for the Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Championships, which take place at Aintree Equestrian Centre in Liverpool during the 14th – 17th November 2013.

This Dodson & Horrell 1.00m National Amateur Second Round saw fifteen starting combinations come forward to compete and six of these combinations went on to contest the jump off.

Abigail Glover (20) from Louth, Lincolnshire won this second round on board her own 14 year-old grey mare, Night Clover. Abigail and Night Clover won this second round by a fantastic margin of over six seconds after producing a double clear in 43.44 seconds.

Second place was taken by 26 year-old Kelly Marshall from Norton Disney, Lincolnshire on her own 6 year-old grey gelding, Cover. This combination delivered their double clear in 49.54 seconds to secure a top two finish.

Third place went to 14 year-old Cameron Skelton from Lincolnshire. Cameron was on Company Business, a 9 year-old chestnut gelding owned by Janet Elvin. Cameron and Company Business collected an unfortunate four faults at fence four of the jump off course, but their time of 42.82 seconds did ensure them of a place in the top three.

Three more riders also went on to achieve their qualification for the Dodson & Horrell 1.00m National Amateur Championship Final.

Dodson & Horrell 1.15m National Amateur Second Round.
Twelve starters came forward to compete in this 1.15m second round and five went on to compete in the jump off. A total of four double clears were achieved which that the clock was pivotal in deciding the top three.

The win in this second round was taken by 22 year-old Katy Thomas from Sheffield, South Yorkshire and she rode her own 13 year-old bay gelding, Lights Out. The combination produced the only sub 34.00 second double clear of the class, eventually stopping the clock on 33.80 seconds.

Second was taken by 30 year-old Lauren Hollingworth from Ashby-Cum-Fenby, Lincolnshire on Jolie Boy, a 10 year-old dark bay gelding. An immaculate double clear from this combination produced in 35.02 seconds was enough to ensure a place in the top two.

Third place was taken by 33 year-old Philippa Bingham from Retford, Nottinghamshire and she was on board her own 8 year-old bay mare, Remi Corona.  Their double clear was delivered in a time of 36.21 seconds.

Two additional riders went to achieve their qualification for the Dodson & Horrell 1.15m National Amateur Championship Final.
