Dodson & Horrell 1.00m and 1.15m National Amateur Second Rounds at Norton Heath Equestrian Centre

Norton Heath Equestrian Centre in Blackmore, Essex held two of the Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Second Rounds on Saturday 2nd November 2013, Competitors were given the opportunity to compete in a 1.00m National Amateur Second Round and a 1.15m National Amateur Second Round.

All of those competing in these two second rounds were aiming to collect one of the twelve direct qualifying places on offer for the Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Championships, which take place at Aintree Equestrian Centre in Liverpool during the 14th – 17th November 2013.

Twenty-eight starters came forward for this 1.00m second and an impressive twenty made it through to contest the jump off. Just four combinations went on to achieve a double clear.

The top spot in this second round was taken by 25 year-old Luke Humphrey from Wisbech, Cambridgeshire, who took the win on his own 10 year-old black gelding, Back to Black II. Luke produced two immaculate and fast rounds from his mount to take victory with a double clear in 33.93 seconds. Luke finished over five seconds ahead of the rest of the field.

Nicola Attenborrow (21) from Maldon, Essex took second place on her own 12 year-old bay gelding, Unimo. This combination clocked up their double clear in 39.48 seconds.

Third place was taken by 31 year-old Melissa Garry from Westerham, Kent. Melissa rode Bonnie III, a 14 year-old grey mare owned by Nicola Waring. A double clear produced in 39.66 seconds ensured that this combination secured a top three finish.

Nine more riders went to achieve their qualification for the Dodson & Horrell 1.00m National Amateur Championship Final.

Dodson & Horrell 1.15m National Amateur Second Round.
This 1.15m second round was contested by eight starters, four of whom went through into the jump off. Just one double clear was subsequently produced.

Melissa Garry enjoyed a successful afternoon on Bonnie III as she led this jump off from the start. Melissa and Bonnie II went on to produce the only double clear of the class and they did so in a time of 36.96 seconds.

Second place was taken by 20 year-old Rosie Offord from Canvey Island, Essex on her own 13 year-old bay gelding, Little Rock II. Rosie and Little Rock II collected an unfortunate 4 faults at the last fence of the jump off course, but they clocked a time of 37.46 seconds to finish up in second.

Third place went to 15 year-old Zoe Smith from Lincolnshire. Zoe was on board Telona, a 13 year-old grey mare owned by Lauren Humphries. The combination finished on 8 faults in 42.14 seconds to secure a place in the top three.

One more rider also went to achieve their qualification for the Dodson & Horrell 1.15m National Amateur Championship Final.
