Dodson & Horrell 1.00m National Amateur Second Round at Felbridge Showground

Felbridge Showground in East Grinstead, West Sussex hosted a Dodson & Horrell 1.00m National Amateur Second Round on Saturday 28th September 2013. The second round attracted thirty-seven eligible starting combinations and nineteen of these competitors made it into the jump off. With just twelve direct qualifying places on offer for the Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Championships, which take place at Aintree Equestrian Centre in Liverpool during the 14th – 17th November 2013, competition was fierce.
Three combinations went on to secure a double clear, but just one went to produce this in under 41.00 seconds to take the top spot. The win was taken by 27 year-old Kirsty Welch from Steyning, West Sussex on Walfried, a 10 year-old chestnut gelding owned by Margaret Pollard. The combination clocked their double clear in a time of 40.95 seconds to clinch victory with nearly half a second to spare.
Second place was secured by 31 year-old Kristy Nelson from Haslemere, Surrey and she was on board her own 15 year-old dark bay gelding, Romeo H. This combination also achieved a double clear and they did so in a time of 41.23 seconds.
Third place went to 40 year-old Gemma Sayers from Hook, Hampshire on her own 7 year-old grey gelding, Kingdom Cruise. The combination produced the third and final double clear of the second round to secure a top three finish in 45.66 seconds.
A further nine riders went on to achieve their qualification for the Dodson & Horrell 1.00m National Amateur Championship Final.
