Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Second Rounds at Patchetts Equestrian Centre

A popular weekend at Patchetts Equestrian Centre in Watford, Hertfordshire saw riders and horses out in force for the Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Second Rounds that were held on Sunday 14th October 2012. The Equestrian Centre played host to two of the Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Second Rounds, those being a 0.90cm National Amateur Second Round and a 1.10m National Amateur Second Round.
Following a competitive season of first round competitions, competitors rode for the chance to qualify for the Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Championships, which take place at Aintree International Equestrian Centre in November 2012 and all of the starting combinations were all hoping to secure one of the twelve direct qualifying tickets on offer for the Championships.
Dodson & Horrell 0.90cm National Amateur Second Round.
This 0.90cm National Amateur Second Round proved to be very popular, attracting 45 eligible starting combinations, all of whom began their qualifying campaign. From these combinations, 26 made it through to the jump off and an impressive 10 went on to achieve an immaculate double clear, which meant that the times were to decide the places.
Securing the overall winner was 26-year-old Monica Ballard from Sittingbourne, Kent and she rode a superb double clear in a fast time to secure the win. Monica qualified for the Championship Final place on board her own My Amazing Grace, a 14-year-old bay mare. Monica achieved her second clear in a time of 29.69 seconds to seal the win.
Finishing in second place was 26-year-old Jade Hall from Reading, Berkshire and she rode her double clear on board her own 14-year-old grey gelding, Diamond Ex. The combination rode clear over the eight jump off fences in a time of 29.78 seconds to ensure that he finished in second place.
Finishing in third was 17-year-old Scarlett Baker from Essex. Scarlett secured third place and a Championship Final place on board Chat Balou, a 22-year-old bay gelding owned by Charlotte Baker. The combination produced their second clear in a time of 30.00 seconds.
A further nine riders also achieved their qualification for the Dodson & Horrell 0.90cm National Amateur Championship Final.

Dodson & Horrell 1.10m National Amateur Second Round.
The 1.10m National Amateur Second Round also proved popular, attracting 25 starting combinations and after the first round of showjumping, there were 11 combinations still in contention after producing a first round clear. From the combinations in the jump off, two produced a double clear, which again meant that the times decided the places.
In this second round, 26-year-old Jade Hall from Reading, Berkshire went one better on board her own 14-year-old grey gelding, Diamond Ex to take the second round win. The combination rode clear over the eight jump off fences in a time of 33.33 seconds to ensure that they won the class by over five seconds.
Second place was secured by Jane Kenny from Petersfield, Hampshire and she achieved her placing on board her own 15-year-old bay gelding, Jools Holland. Jane rode the only other double clear of the day in a time of 38.39 seconds.
Third place was secured by 26-year-old Monica Ballard from Sittingbourne, Kent, who achieved her second Championship Final qualification of the day, this time on board her own eight-year-old chestnut mare, Miss Cartier. The combination had an unfortunate pole at the last fence in the jump off, but their time of 31.71 seconds was fast enough to secure a top three finish.
A further eight riders also achieved their qualification for the Dodson & Horrell 1.10m National Amateur Championship Final.
