Monday 17 June 2013

The third EquestrianClearance.com Senior Newcomers second round took place during the weekend at the Scottish National Equestrian Centre (SNEC) in Broxburn, West Lothian. The second round took place on Sunday 16th June 2013 and a total of 50 starting combinations came forward to compete.
Up for grabs at this second round were two direct qualifying tickets for the EquestrianClearance.com Senior Newcomers Championship Final at the Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) and all of the combinations competing in this second round came with the aim of taking one of these tickets home.
Of all the starters, 8 combinations went on to produce two clear rounds to make it through into the final jump off. In the jump off, 4 combinations achieved a treble clear and placings were allocated according to the times.
The winner’s spot was eventually taken by 32 year-old Nicola McArthur from Dunfermline, Fife. Nicola won this second round on board Amaretto VI, an 8 year-old bay gelding owned by David Kerr. The combination achieved their third clear in 39.61 seconds to give them just over second in hand over the second placed combination.
In second was 30 year-old Simon Buckley from Kendal, Cumbria and he rode Delinquent JX, a 6 year-old black gelding who Simon jointly owns with Judith Buckley. This combination jumped third clear in a time of 40.63 seconds.
A delighted Nicola said “I am just over the moon, to qualify and be set to compete at the Horse of the Year Show is a dream come true, it is just amazing.
“I work as a PA for the family business which allows me to be flexible and I have never had a horse to ride as talented as this so want to make the most of the opportunity. He had only jumped one Senior British Novice when I started riding him last year and it has taken quite a while to get him to concentrate and focus but in the last two months it has all started to come together. In the second round qualifier the bigger the fences the higher he jumped and really showed how much scope he has.
“I have very high hopes for him and we can now look forward to competing in the EquestrianClearance.com Senior Newcomers Championship at HOYS which is very exciting.
The first two horse and rider combinations, disregarding those already qualified, will qualify for the Horse of the Year Show. The first five, disregarding those already qualified, will qualify for the Alexanders Horseboxes British Showjumping Scope Festival 2013. Horses and riders that jump a treble clear also qualify for the Alexanders Horseboxes British Showjumping Scope Festival 2013.
