Five more British International Riders to compete internationally at Horse of the Year Show

Tuesday 01 October 2013

The final five British riders to compete in the international classes at Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) have now been confirmed, following the completion of wildcard events.  “The World’s Most Famous Horse Show”, which runs from 9th – 13th October at Birmingham’s NEC, will welcome Nicole Pavitt, David McPherson, Tim Page, Ellen Whitaker and Robert Bevis, alongside the 10 British riders who have already been confirmed and 15 foreign competitors, to be announced soon.

Nicole and David both qualified through the wildcard classes held at the Autumn Show Jumping Classic at Bury Farm Equestrian Village. Ellen and Robert qualified just a few weeks later, through the wildcard classes at Arena UK’s Major Festival. Both competitions ran over three days, during which riders competed in a jump-off class, speed class and grand prix-style class. Tim Page secured his qualification by taking the honours at British Showjumping’s HOYS Wild Card League, which tabulates points gained from International Trials and International Stairways.

Four of the five riders have also qualified to compete nationally at this year’s HOYS, including reigning EquestrianClearance.com Senior Newcomers Champion Nicole Pavitt. Nicole took the title at last year’s Show with Marclea Curbishley’s Our Duchess. David, Ellen and Robert will also compete in at least one of the national championships, so it will be a busy week all round.

Four of the 11 international classes carry Longines FEI World Ranking Points and together they boast a total prize fund of £150,500. As the week progresses, all eyes will be on the pinnacle of the international classes, the Leading Show Jumper of the Year, which carries a £40,000 prize fund.

There is plenty in store for visitors throughout the week at this year’s Show. As well as hosting the finals of the most highly regarded national showing and show jumping championships; world-class international show jumping; Virbac 3D Worming Pony Club Mounted Games, and Osborne Refrigerators Double Harness Scurry, there is a full line-up of unbeatable entertainment to celebrate HOYS’ 65th year in style. The new Mount St John Dressage Future Elite Championship will feature seven of the UK’s top dressage riders competing for the inaugural title. There will be two very special displays: The Musical Drive of The King’s Troop, Royal Horse Artillery, presented by Home Farm Hothorpe and the Mulbrooke Stud, and Luma the Lion, the small pony ingeniously disguised as a big cat. Visitors can also enjoy educational and fun activities all week in the Parelli Interactive Savvy Area located in the famous Retail Village. Sunday’s very special gala evening performance will feature a fantastic finale complete with a performance from Military Wives Choirs and three very special equine guests;  Arko III, Beckside Little Toff and Holme Grove Prokofiev.
