With three direct qualifying tickets available for the Squibb Group Pony Foxhunter Championship Final at the Horse of the Year Show (HOYS), all of the starting combinations were vying for one of these tickets. From all the starters, 5 combinations went on to produce two clear rounds to make it through into the final jump off.
Following a closely fought jump off, the win was taken by 15 year-old Leonie Aitkenhead from Lincolnshire and she partnered her mother’s (Beverley Aitkenhead) 8 year-old skewbald gelding, Gregory 55. The combination jumped treble clear in a time of 43.10 seconds
Second place was taken by 15 year-old Abbie Bevan from Clwyd and she was competing on her father’s (Colin Bevan) 9 year-old bay gelding, Eclips VI. This combination achieved their third clear in a time of 44.82 seconds
Third place was taken by 16 year-old Emma Kitching from Leicestershire and she rode The Gold Rush, a 9 year-old dun mare owned by David Thatcher. The combination clocked a treble clear in 55.74 seconds to ensure a top three finish.
With the top three taking the direct qualifying tickets for the Squibb Group Pony Foxhunter Championship Final at the Horse of the Year Show (HOYS); the riders and ponies finishing in fourth and fifth just missed out on HOYS. However, they did take home the chance to compete at The Alexanders Horseboxes British Showjumping Scope Festival 2013.
