Hand Equestrian Centre Host a Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Second Round

The fourth Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Second Round was held at Hand Equestrian Centre in Clevedon, Avon this weekend on Saturday 8th June 2013. The class formed an integral part of the Pony Premier show and it proved popular with the riders, attracting 66 eligible starting combinations.

Up for grabs at this second round were two direct qualifying tickets for the Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Championship Final at the Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) and all of the starting combinations were aiming to take one of these tickets home.

From the total number of starters, 15 combinations made it through into the final jump off and 4 combinations then went on to produce an all important treble clear, which meant that the places came down to the times.

The win was eventually taken by 14 year-old Jessica Hewitt from West Yorkshire and she produced her treble clear on Nikita XIII, a 7 year-old black mare owned by Rachael Williams. The combination achieved their third clear in a time of 40.39 seconds to beat the rest of the field.

In second was 14 year-old Jared Lunn from Essex. Jared partnered his father’s (Richard Lunn) 14 year-old bay gelding Little Boy De Carmen and the combination produced their treble clear in 40.55 seconds.

With the top two taking the direct qualifying tickets for the Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Championship Final at the Horse of the Year Show (HOYS), the riders and ponies who finished in third to fifth missed out on HOYS qualification this time around. However, they did take home the chance to compete at The Alexanders Horseboxes British Showjumping Scope Festival 2013.
