Hold your horses - the countdown is on!

With just 100 days until the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games (25 September – 10 October) Team GBR is launching its official guide to give you an insight into the Championships.

The Team GBR Guide to the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games provides an overview to the Games together with essential information on the eight disciplines that take to the World stage in Kentucky, USA. As well as a schedule for the competition, it also includes information on the British teams – past performances, horses and riders as they are selected, together with its key support staff.

The guide will be regularly updated and circulated again before the Games – with an interactive version also available soon.

“We appreciate that much of the nation’s focus right now is on the soccer World Cup!” said Will Connell, World Class Performance Director, British Equestrian Federation. “But with not long until the World Equestrian Games, Team GBR is gearing up for its quest for success and the opportunity of hopefully bringing home more World Championship titles.”

Equestrianism has a good track record at World Championships – the British Para-equestrian dressage team are currently World Champions, with four riders also being individual champions, while Zara Philips holds the eventing World Championship title (and the team hold silver). The British dressage team won silver at last year’s European Championships while Laura Bechtolsheimer picked up the individual bronze. And Joanne Eccles, the very successful British vaulter, holds the European Vaulting Championship title.

A World Equestrian Games includes the eight disciplines of dressage, eventing, showjumping, para-equestrian dressage, driving, endurance, reining and vaulting. The Olympic and Paralympic sports are generously supported by lottery funding via UK Sport but the non-Olympic sports of driving, endurance, reining and vaulting, although supported where possible by the World Class Programme, do not receive direct funding for the event from the Programme.

A variety of fundraising initiatives have been launched to help support the trip to Kentucky for all the British teams. These include an online auction with new exclusive lots added each month and the opportunity to buy Team GBR merchandise which ranges from clothing to a recently launched silver bracelet; generous donations are made to the teams for all items sold. Further information about all the fundraising activities can be found on the official Team GBR website.

All the news and behind the scenes views in the run up to and during the Games can be found on the Team GBR website, including the opportunity to sign up for FREE as a Team GBR Supporter to receive regular updates. Visit www.equestrianteamgbr.co.uk for more details.

The Games take place in Lexington, Kentucky, USA from Saturday 25 September to Sunday 10 October.
