Jonty Hughes and Amy Harman triumph in the STX-UK Pony British Novice Second Rounds

This weekend saw more young riders and their ponies take to the ring to compete in the STX-UK Pony British Novice Second Round at Pyecombe Horse Show and Pickering Grange Equestrian Centre.

At Pyecombe Horse Show, 12 starters were whittled down to four over the three round competition with two achieving that final clear round in the jump-off. Victory would go the way of Amy Harman who piloted Sofie-May Harman’s Lismoy Clover over the finish in a remarkable time of 32.43 seconds. Her precision and speed outpaced the competition, securing her the top spot almost 10 seconds ahead of Felicity Jearum-Stone who rode decisively into second place with Danielle Jearum-Stone’s Brackhowney Swallow. Freya Hitchen slotted into third place with the fastest four fault round in the jump-off, piloting Anna Hitchen’s Coolrahnee Thunder.

In the Pony Discovery Second Round, Alfie Diaper once again reigned supreme to take home the victory and a place in the final with Tarkasbrook Stud’s Kharthago Van Orchids. Olivia Lewington and Victoria Lewington’s Dromore Hill Spirit finished just 1.06 seconds behind in second place whilst Freya Hitchen picked up another top three finish, this time with Anna Hitchen’s Brynbach Chief.

At Pickering Grange, the competition was fierce as over 50% of the starting field advanced through the rounds to the final jump off, but it was Jonty Hughes on Sarah West’s Idole Des Islots who emerged victorious. The pair delivered a stunning triple clear, completing the jump-off in exactly 39 seconds and edging out second place finisher, Oliver Rodgers, riding Hannah Rodgers’ Fairrose Fantasy, by 2.19 seconds. Third place went to Marcella Eaton Reynolds, riding Kelly Eaton’s Ebordale Prince Louis, who finished just 0.27 further off the pace.

Lucy Macgregor stormed to top spot in the Pony Discovery Second Round, piloting Laura Macgregor’s Causeway Freedom around the course in an uncatchable time of 31.27 seconds. Francesca Davies secured second place with Affordable Equine Ltd’s Annaghmore Panicball, 5.26 seconds off the winning time.
