Limelight Braves All to Win the Queen Elizabeth II Cup

The ever consistent little mare Limelight de Breve came out with all guns blazing for Laura Renwick by winning the prestigious Queen Elizabeth II Cup, sponsored by Old Lodge at the Longines Royal International Horse Show, Hickstead this afternoon.

One of just five double clears from the twenty four starters, Lulu (as Limelight is affectionately known!) managed to shave approximately half a second from Peter Charles on Olga White's Rubert R to secure her primary share of the £9,000 prize fund.  With crowds on the edge of their seats, the grandstands erupted into cheers of approval as this gutsy little mare showed once again why she holds such a special place in Laura's heart.

"Today has just been unbelievable" said Laura "Lulu tries so hard every time we go out - coming second just isn't something she seems to even consider.  I'm sure she's as focused on winning as I am, she's just fantastic - words fail to explain how special she is"

Peter Charles, as ever, with his Murka team of horses displayed horsemanship that everyone now expects to see whenever he appears in the ring.  A mainstay and pivotal member of the British Team this year, Peter's round was faultless with some tremendous jumping albeit it just that fraction of a second behind Laura Renwick resulting in him taking second place.

With third place going to Irelands Anthony Condon and Henry Aird's Cruisings Mickey Finn, it was good to see two horses coming to the fore this season in fourth and fifth place.   Philip Miller, enjoying his first Queen Elizabeth II cup as was Caritar Z, owned by Diana Cornish & Nigel Eccles produced another great double clear just slightly ahead of William Funnell and his own Billy Congo who finished in fifth place.
