Logan Creighton scores victory in the UNIBED – High Performance Equine Bedding Winter Grades B&C Qualifier at the AW Jenkinson Winter Classic at Aintree International Equestrian Centre

Logan Creighton made his journey from Dalry, North Ayrshire worthwhile as he guided Il Faut to victory in the UNIBED – High Performance Equine Bedding Winter Grades B&C Qualifier at Aintree International Equestrian Centre’s AW Jenkinson Winter Classic in Liverpool.  The win earned a finalist ticket for the Royal International Horse Show Final at Hickstead.

“Our main aim at this show was preparation for the HOYS Foxhunter Final but this UNIBED B and C qualifier was always in our sights, and he was ready to try and qualify for Hickstead,” said Logan.

Forty-seven competitors came forward over a 1.35m course and such was the quality, 16 of them supplied a clean sheet to go into the jump-off.  Logan gained the upper hand on the eight-year-old Il Faut to win by 1.09 seconds.

“The course suited him with plenty of stride and distance, it worked in our favour.  I took the inside lines, went one less stride to the double and forward to the last – I could trust his stride and scope,” explained Logan.

The Dutch-bred stallion – who boasts the fabulous showjumping bloodlines of Comme Il Faut x Diamant De Semilly – was purchased in The Netherlands as a two-year-old.

“My wife AJ broke him in as a three-year-old, but he only got four or five shows in as a four-year-old because of Covid lockdowns and really only started competing properly as a five-year-old.  He’s very level-headed, travels happily with mares and geldings and enjoys his field time, he’s easy,” said Logan, who will jump at HOYS and then travel to Spain for the five-week Valencia tour – “He’ll jump in 1.40m classes and I hope to work up to World Ranking classes.”

It was clean sweep for Scottish riders.  Emma Crawford claimed the second Royal International Horse Show ticket on the nine-year-old King Louie III (Zacharov x Lansing), who makes a return to Hickstead after finishing third in this final last year, and Aileen Craig finished third with the seven-year-old C&N Lockdown only 0.04 seconds.
