Mark Edwards Wins the British Showjumping Business Partnership International Stairway at Suffolk County Show

Suffolk County Show hosted the second of this year’s International Stairways series where Mark Edwards returned to his winning ways with Flying Tinker II.

Twenty-five combinations arrived at the iconic agricultural event to take on the 1.50m course designed by Kelvin Bywater, with five jumping clear to return for the jump-off, Paul Sims securing two of those places.

With three double clears, it would require precision and speed to take the title. It was ‘Master of Faster’ Mark Edwards, riding Martyn Edwards’ 14-year-old gelding, Flying Tinker II, who flew around the shortened course and stopped the clock in the fastest time of the day. This pair are no strangers to the International Stairway league having won the leg at Devon County Show in 2024.

Paul Sims jumped double clear and slotted into second place with his own Jankorado GB whilst also picking up fourth place with Phillip and Alison Gray’s Kingfisher VI as the fastest four fault round. Helen Tredwell sandwiched her home-bred, Luikan, into the middle for third place with the only other double clear. Chloe Winchester picked up fifth with her own Baskin Smooth Diamond.

Commenting on his victory, Mark said: “Our little pocket rocket is back to his winning ways. This International Trial had Flying Tinker’s name all over it, and we are so thrilled that this little 15.3hh superstar is back on the circuit and loving it.”

The International Stairway takes place across a number of county shows where winning combinations accrue league points that count towards the Final which takes place at the British Showjumping National Championships in August at Stoneleigh Park. The series culminates with a high-profile championship where, not only is the National Champion crowned, but three Horse of the Year Show International Wild Cards are up for grabs.

The International Stairway Series is supported by the British Showjumping Business Partnership, which includes ClipMyHorse.TV, Charles Owen, HorseQuest, Ariat, and Zebra Products, to whom everyone at British Showjumping is extremely grateful.
