National Club Horse League Finals Come to a Spectacular Conclusion
Friday 14 August 2015
The British Showjumping National Championships and Stoneleigh Horse Show welcomed the National Club Horse League Final today in Ring 8 at the NAEC, Stoneleigh. Club leagues give riders the opportunity to compete regularly for club points. This enables them to climb league tables rather than compete for prize money.
The first class consisted of riders battling it out for the 0.7m title. Competitors in the league classes had qualified by finishing their league in the top 20. League competitions take place all around the country in 8 regions. Sally Mcnaughton and Gunnar Mason raced to victory in the 0.7m in a highly competitive jump off with a time of 35.42 seconds.
The 0.8m class followed with Karen Wornham riding Cattano ADZ taking the win. Karen completed a very confident and calm first round, setting the combination up for a clear jump off. Out of twelve competitors in the jump off, Karen was one of two who had completed a double clear. When asked about a strategy Karen said: “I felt confident after my first round and went into the jump off just wanting a clear round”.
The penultimate class of the day saw the riders in a fierce battle for the 0.9m title. Spectators saw 6 of the 11 riders moving into the jump off. Rachel Davison flew through the jump off in a time of 38.02 causing her to take the winning title with Aztec Fantasia. Rachel has been successful this season having consistently placed in 90cm and 1m Club Horse Opens.
The final class of the day was the 1m Horse National Club Championship. Roxanne Hennebery and Brighton Boy rode to victory in the 1m by completing a confident and accurate round. Roxanne has been producing Brighton Boy for the past five years, she explained that Brighton Boy came to her “in need of a home as he was un rideable”. Over the past five years Roxanne has been able to create an unbreakable bond which has led them to the British Showjumping National Championships.
Roxanne said “he jumped his heart out today… it’s a dream come true”. The combination had already placed 2nd in the 90cm prior to the 1m allowing them to relax and simply enjoy the ride.
