SCOTT BRASH WINS PENULTIMATE CLASS AT LONDON GCT
Sunday 09 June 2013
The penultimate FEI 5* class today at the Global Champions Tour, a 1.45m Accumulator saw Peebleshire based Scott Brash MBE with Elizabeth McTaggarts 12 year-old brown gelding Bon Ami II take 1st place in competition that saw forty three starters.
The format of the competition was one where each fence would accrue points relative to their difficulty and riders could take their own line within a specific time limit to accumulate as many points as possible. Penalties would be added if riders had fences down or a refusal so it was not only imperative to jump clear but also in the fastest route taking in as many of the highest scoring fences as possible.
Scott alongside nine other riders took the same line jumping clear and accumulating 65 points, however his time of 42.87 seconds was enough to relegate French rider Roger Yves-Bost to 2nd place with Castle Forbes Cosma. With Roger’s time of 42.97seconds being only a fraction of a second slower than Scotts, the remaining placings were equally as tight with only 1 second between the top four places.
The inaugural Global Champions Tour in London drew to a close this evening with competitors, owners and spectators all hailing it a fantastic success. The setting and infrastructure was stunning, the organisation superb and the competition fierce. Bringing a leg of the Global Champions Tour to London looks set to put Showjumping back on the map with many spectators returning to watch the sport in London who had previously experienced it for the first time in Greenwich at the London 2012 Olympics.
The 2013 Global Champions Tour series now moves to Cannes, France before heading to Monte Carlo towards it’s culminating venue of Doha in November. For more information on the Global Champions Tour please visit www.globalchampionstour.com
