Showjumper Guild wins the Dodson & Horrell and the World Class Programme U23 British Championship Qualifier at Aintree

It was Scottish based showjumper Lucy Guild with her mother’s Titi D’Oase who took the top honours at the fourth qualifying competition for the Dodson & Horrell and the World Class Programme U23 British Championship Final, which takes place at the London International Horse Show, Olympia on Friday 20 December 2013.

Hosted at Aintree Equestrian Centre in Liverpool, the qualifier (which is open to riders aged 23 years or under) saw some excellent jumping produced from the field of 37 starters. The first round saw 11 riders jump clear round the up to height technical course designed by Mark McGowan.

In the jump off five riders again produced clear rounds but it was Lucy who took the win in a time of 35.92 seconds; Emily Ward (Wild Rose II) finished second with Jess Dimmock (Capello II) third; Emma O’Dwyer (Ballymore Eustace) was fourth and Scarlett Ward (Milena 8) finished fifth.

World Class Development Showjumping Co-ordinator Tina Goosen commented from Aintree; “To have that number of competitors, with so many of them looking comfortable with the high standard of technical course produced by Mark bodes very well for the future of British showjumping and I was delighted to see some new faces and new combinations coming through. To have five double clears at this level of competition is a real testament.”

There was a total prize fund of £1650 for the qualifier, and Training Vouchers to the value of £725.00 awarded to the first six prize-winning riders currently eligible for British Team Selection.

The Championships are supported by feed merchant Dodson and Horrell and by the World Class Development Programme. The Development Programme is funded by Lottery and Exchequer funds via UK Sport; the Programme seeks to identify and develop talented athletes who have shown the potential to reach the world stage.

Dodson & Horrell has a long history of support in equestrian sports across all levels, from its sponsorship of Riding Club and Pony Club events, over 25 years of support for Point-to-Point racing to title sponsorship of the iconic Chatsworth International Horse Trials.  As Royal Warrant holder and official supplier of nutrition to Equestrian Team GBR, Dodson & Horrell will play a pivotal advisory role in the lead up to next year’s WEG, Normandy and the 2016 Rio Olympics.

The final two qualifying competitions for the 2013 series take place at Morris Equestrian, Kilmarnock (25-27 October) and Addington Equestrian Centre, Buckingham (13-16 November).
