South of England Show Hosts a Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C Qualifier

The second Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C Qualifier took place last week (Thursday 6th June 2013) at the South of England Show in Ardingly, West Sussex. The class saw 59 starting combinations come forward.

Up for grabs at this qualifier were three direct qualifying tickets for the Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C Championship Final at the Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) and all of the starting combinations were vying for one of these tickets. All of the combinations were hoping to produce a double clear to put them in contention for Championship Final qualification. A hotly contested jump off containing 21 combinations saw 10 of these produce a double clear to mean that the placings came down to the times.

First place was taken by 32 year-old Aoife O’Connor from Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire and she was on board Jokalux, a 7 year-old bay mare owned by Breen Equestrian Ltd and Quirke Sport Horses Ltd. This combination achieved the fastest double clear of the day to take the win with a time of 39.85 seconds.

In second was 25 year-old Nicole Pavitt from Crawley, West Sussex. Nicole rode Zeppeling, a 9 year-old bay stallion owned by Sandra Pavitt and the combination produced their double clear in 40.75 seconds.

Third place went to 52 year-old David McPherson from Maidstone, Kent and he was on board the 7 year-old grey mare, Vogue V, owned by Mandy Hall. This combination posted a double clear in 41.69 seconds to grab the third and final qualifying spot.
