Stuart Muirhead Succeeds in Dodson & Horrell 0.95m National Amateur Second Round at Scottish National Equestrian Centre

Sixteen year-old Stuart Muirhead from Dalry, North Ayrshire fought off the challenge from thirty other competitors on Saturday to clinch the top spot in the Dodson & Horrell 0.95m National Amateur Second Round held at the Scottish National Equestrian Centre in Broxburn, West Lothian.
With just twelve direct qualifying places available for the Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Championships at Aintree Equestrian Centre in Liverpool (18th – 22nd November), spectators were treated to a competitive eighteen horse jump off in which fourteen double clears were produced. This overall result meant that all eyes were then focused on the clock as this would decide the allocation of the qualification places.
Stuart took the victory on board his mother Christine’s 14 year-old chestnut mare Merllyns Mondena after they secured their double clear in just 41.16 seconds. This time was to prove quick enough to give the combination over two seconds in hand.
Second place went to Leona Urquhart from Glasgow, Lanarkshire on her own 7 year-old bay mare Conga Van De Neerheide. This combination produced their double clear in 43.40 seconds.
Nikki Robb from Stirling, Stirlingshire secured third with her own 12 year-old bay mare Kocomo. Two foot perfect rounds from this combination in 45.23 seconds ensured a podium place.
