Team NAF Young Riders finish joint second in Wierden Nations Cup

This afternoon at the Dutch Youngster Festival in Wierden, The Netherlands, it was a joint second Nations Cup finish for the Young Riders, competing under the title sponsor banner of Team NAF.

The win came from Denmark who, with a jump in hand, finished on zero penalties to push themselves ahead of GBR and Germany who with their 4 penalty score each shared the second position spot. Belgium took 4th on a total of 8 penalties and the Netherlands 5th with a score of 40.

The four riders representing Great Britain all put in some terrific rounds and it was 20 year-old Jodie Hall McAteer with Hello M’Lord, a 13 year-old brown stallion that achieved the sole double clear for the team that gave them the final push up the line-up.

The three other riders also looked as equally impressive with each of them posting a clear apiece. Will Edwards, aged 20 from Ellesmere in Shropshire delivered a first round clear before picking up an unlucky 4 faults with the 10 year-old chestnut mare SHW Candies B.

For 18 year-old Antonia Platt from Chelmsford in Essex, the fortunes were reversed when 4 penalties in the first round were collected before coming back in and posting a superb clear in the second with Marvin van de Waterhoeve, a 9 year-old bay gelding owned by David McPherson. James Winter, aged 20 from Chepstow in Gwent was unfortunate to collect 8 penalties in the first round with his mother Elizabeth’s 9 year-old bay mare Garande. They put this behind them though in the second round when they came in confidently to break the finish line clear within the time allowed to bring home another zero penalty score for GB.

Talking after the competition Clare Whitaker, Youth Team Manager for Great Britain said “I’m really pleased with how they have all gone today. Jodie was exceptional and she made a great anchor rider today. Antonia’s second round was excellent, she made a great recovery and so did James Winter with his second round clear. Will was just unlucky in the second round having posted such a good clear in the first. They've all been good today and also all really played their part to achieve the second place finish that they did.”
