JOHN ORMISTON - RETIREMENT

After more than 50 years of membership and service to British Showjumping, John Ormiston has decided to retire as Vice Chair of the Scottish Committee.

I am sure many of you will know John personally and will have worked with John at many shows in Scotland over the years.

John has been involved with British Showjumping for more than 50 years, John himself is a Course Designer and Judge, his late wife, Jenny, was a Judge and their two daughters Janet and Julie both rode and jumped successfully.  One of their ponies was named Glenlivet after John’s favourite whisky.

When John still lived at his farm, he would take jumps to shows and would clean all the trailers out over winter to make sure everything was ready for the next season.

After the family moved to Ferniegair in Hamilton, Scottish Branch acquired the jump store and John became Depot Manager, dealing with all the necessary repairs, building new jumps and delivering jumps and timing to shows.

John was always seen at shows getting stuck into any jobs required, doing the job of two or three people single handedly.

He became an Area Rep for Lanarkshire in 1996 and joined Scottish Branch Council.  John has served on numerous committees including Scottish Stewards, Training & Selection, Jumps & Timing, the Branch Show Committee, and the Show Dates Committee.

John was also Chairman of Finance and was invited to join the Finance Committee of the BSJA Board as it was then.  He has subsequently served as Vice Chair of the Scottish Committee supporting Anne Logan.

In short, there are very few people, if any, who have worked harder for Scottish Showjumping than John over the years.  We will all miss seeing John out on the Showjumping circuit in Scotland, but he assures me he will still be keeping a close eye through live streamed events ensuring we are all behaving!

British Showjumping would like to thank John for all his dedication and commitment to the sport over the years and wish him all the best in his retirement.

Thank you John.
