The top spot in The Champagne Cave Winter Grades B & C Championship Qualifier held at Bury Farm Equestrian Centre in Buckinghamshire was shared between Michael Potter from Nottinghamshire and Declan Irvine from Coatbridge, Lanarkshire.

Thirty-four competitors came forward with the hope of gaining a qualifying ticket for the Championship Final which will be held at the Royal International Horse Show at Hickstead, West Sussex in July. Only ten made it through to the jump-off, designed by Phil Ashworth, with four producing double clears.

Michael rode his own Haya Loma N, a 7 year-old bay mare on whom he won the Big Star 6 Year Old Championship with in 2018. Declan was aboard Richard Duncan and Kirk Ritchie’s Fendiela, a 9 year-old bay mare who he has ridden since 2016.

Michaela Webb from Holcot, Northamptonshire took third place and an additional qualifying ticket on Stellar Skylight, a 10 year-old dark bay gelding owned by Nicola Savage and Adrian Jenks.

The Champagne Cave:

The Champagne Cave was set up in order to source the best vintages from small niche growers in France and is now predominantly supplied by small family run vineyards. The company regularly visits the Champagne region to check on the produce and witness the production process first hand. The Champagne Cave has handpicked some of the finest champagnes, many of which are not found for sale elsewhere in the UK. Their ‘clos’ wines are from one of the few remaining walled garden vineyards whilst their Grand Cru magnum champagnes are made by a grower who only produces 500-1000 magnums a year. Shop the selection via www.thechampagnecave.co.uk.
