Lottie Tutt Wins Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Second Round at Cherwell Competition Centre
Tuesday 05 July 2016
Fifteen year-old Lottie Tutt used her final draw to maximum effect taking victory in the Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Second Round at Cherwell Competition Centre riding Kanclaudius. This win earns them a place in the championship final at the prestigious Horse of the Year Show in October.
Fifty-six competitors chased the two coveted qualifying places for the Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Championship, but only thirteen managed first round clears. Of these, only three accessed the jump-off over the raised track, making it all to play for as one rider was destined to going home empty handed.
It was all down to the clock as all three again provided clear rounds, but cool-headed, Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire-based Lottie, was the fastest by 1.26 secconds aboard Helen Tredwell’s home-bred Kanclaudius. The 6-year-old mare, by Robert Smith’s former top ride Marius Claudius – who won the senior Foxhunter final at HOYS in 2000 – was first competed by Helen in senior novice classes, but due to Kanclaudius’ petite stature, she was switched to pony classes at the beginning of 2016.
India Bussey 15 year-old from Norwich, Norfolk is also off to Horse of the Year Show after taking second on Ranchwood Latte, a 12-year-old palomino mare.
Missing out on qualification in third place was 15 year-old Madison Jamison from Blackburn, Lancashire riding Sweepstake, a 7 year-old bay gelding owned by Nicola Jamison, but they get another qualifying chance in the Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Masters at the National Showjumping Championships, Stoneleigh, in August. Joining her for that last-chance qualification is fourth-placed Sarah Mackmin on Limited Edition and Amy Barrett with Cobra Kaa in fifth.
