Newbridge Sport Horses to Support ‘Step Up To Gold’ Programme

British Showjumping is pleased to announce an exciting new partnership with Newbridge Sport Horses which will see the company support the ‘Step Up To Gold’ Programme 2015/2016 by underpinning some of the funding required to further the opportunities available to the riders selected for the programme. Their backing adds to support already provided by funding partner Sport England.

Newbridge Sport Horses’ contribution to the programme will provide riders with further coaching support at shows and will also give them the opportunity to gain experience at an International show both in the UK and abroad. Charlene Bastone, who rides for Newbridge Sport Horses, was selected for the first year of the programme and during her time on it, has developed her riding to where she now achieves success in 1.40m classes. Charlene also represented Great Britain in Hagen earlier on this year and she went on to finish fourth in a highly competitive Young Rider Grand Prix.

The ‘Step Up To Gold’ Programme helps to develop riders planning on moving up from the Silver League to the 1.35m/1.40m Gold League before the end of the year long programme by providing them with a great opportunity to gain the training and support needed to ‘Step Up’.

The programme consists of the below and applications have opened for 2015/2016. For more information on applying, please click here, and please note that applications close on Monday 28th September 2015.

  • National and regional training days with Matt Lanni and a regional coach
  • Strength and Condition coaches working individually with riders to develop a training programme
  • Sport Science support including horse physiotherapy, saddle experts, veterinary talks, anti-doping talks and travelling abroad workshops
  • Coach and organisational support at a national show abroad and an international show in the UK
  • Funding will cover training fees, sport science support, strength and condition coaches and some other associated costs such as entry fees and stabling

Commenting on the announcement, Andy Brown, Managing Director of the Newbridge Group, which includes Newbridge Sport Horses said “We are honoured to partner with British Showjumping and it’s an amazing opportunity for us to be able to show our support for such a fantastic programme. We were so impressed with the level of commitment and training that our rider Charlene Bastone received last year and it was this that made us want to help riders to further benefit from all that the programme has to offer and make that ‘Step Up To Gold’.”

Justine Naylor, National Director of Sport at British Showjumping further commented “The support of Newbridge Sport Horses is testament to the success of the ‘Step Up to Gold’ Programme and recognises the progress and benefits that the riders on the programme reap. We are thrilled that they have come on board, it enables the programme to offer another level of specialist delivery and support to aid rider’s progression further and we look forward to working with a new group of riders for the upcoming intake.”
