Adrian Whiteway Qualifies for the SEIB Winter Novice Championship at Hartpury College

The ninth qualifier for the SEIB Winter Novice Championship 2015 was held on Saturday 14th March at Hartpury College in Gloucester. As commonly seen with this popular series, the class was well contested with a total of fifty-six combinations starting out over the course.

One aim of each and every competitor was to claim one of the two direct qualifying places available for the Championship Final, which will be held during the Longines Royal International Horse Show during 28th July – 2nd August 2015 and after the first round, eighteen combinations were still in with a shot.

Eight of the eighteen combinations in the jump off went on to deliver an immaculate double clear which meant that all eyes were on the clock when it came down to allocating those coveted qualification spots and less than a second separated the top three combinations.

Kerry Grimster, aged 28, from Maidenhead, Berkshire partnered her own 6 year-old black mare Moonlight VI and the pair produced the fastest double clear of the class to take the victory. Drawn as the penultimate combination to go in the jump off and after having seen seven double clears produced before them, Kerry knew that only a quick, foot perfect round would put her in contention of both a qualifying spot and the victory. The combination duly delivered this, securing their double clear in 33.74 seconds. 

Adrian Whiteway, aged 24, from Wraxall, Bristol took second place after producing two faultless rounds on his own 8 year-old dark bay gelding Cojack. Adrian and Cojack produced their double clear in 34.49 seconds and achieved this early on in the jump off and their result proved hard to catch.

The next SEIB Winter Novice Championship Qualifier will take place at Bishop Burton College in Beverley, East Yorkshire on Saturday 21st March 2015.
