Wednesday 01 June 2016
With a keen field of forty-seven starters all looking to ride away with the top spot, the Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C Qualifier at Hertfordshire County Show in Redbourn on Saturday proved to be a hotly contested competition and great viewing for the spectators.
All competitors started the class with high expectations of claiming one of the three qualification places available for the Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C Championship Final at the Horse of the Year Show and with twenty-one combinations going clear, the jump off was packed with eager riders still hoping to leave all the fences standing in a quick time.
With thirteen combinations successfully achieving a second clear round, it was left up to the all-important clock to be the deciding factor in the allocation of the three sought after qualifying tickets.
Seventeen year-old Jordan Gann from St. Albans, Hertfordshire showed her talent as she scooped the top spot on board Lakeland Dancer, a 10 year-old bay mare owned by Julia Gann. Producing an accurate and lightning fast round, this pair secured first place in an unbeatable time of 35.81 seconds.
It was Phillip Miller from Harpenden, Hertfordshire who took second place riding Roulette H, a 7 year-old bay gelding owned by Downes Howard. This combination finished just over a second behind the leaders to claim their double clear in a time of 36.97 seconds.
Third place went to Bryan Smith who is based in Malvern, Worcestershire and he took the final qualification place on board Elizabeth Coles 11 year-old bay gelding, Dungimmon Sunrise. The pair produced their double clear in 37.16 seconds.
