Announcement of Death - Alan Jones 30/7/1943 – 3/6/2015

Thursday 04 June 2015

It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of British Showjumping Official, Alan Jones, aged 71 years.

Alan, who lived in Wrexham, was extremely well respected within the sport both nationally and internationally.   Having fallen in love with equestrianism from a very young age he was introduced to the idea of becoming an Official during his early twenties by friend and neighbour Wilf White, a key figure in the Association at the time and 1952 Olympic Team Gold medallist.  This was the start of a career which spanned more than five decades and saw him rise through the ranks to become a highly regarded National and FEI Level 3 Judge.

His depth of knowledge, compassion and sense of humour accompanied with a direct but fair way of dealing with any issues that arose made Alan an extremely popular figure on the circuit and he will be missed greatly by all who knew him.

Our sincere condolences go to his wife Doreen and their family during this most difficult time.

Further information regarding funeral arrangements will be issued when they are available.
