British Pony Team Dominate in Hagen for the Fourth Consecutive Year
Friday 19 June 2015
The British Pony Team continued their stronghold in the Pony Nations Cup competition in Hagen, Germany earlier on this afternoon when they took victory for the fourth consecutive year.
Under the watchful eye of Chef d’Equipe Matthew Lanni, all four of the team riders put in strong performances in round one to leave Great Britain sitting in equal first place on a zero fault alongside Sweden. The Brits kept the clear rounds coming in round two and went on to take a convincing victory with them being the only team to finish on zero. The French, Irish and German teams all took equal second place after finishing on 8 faults.
GB Performances
Jodie Hall Mcateer, aged 15 from Borehamwood, Hertfordshire, took the role of trailblazer with team stalwart Tixylix, the 17 year-old chestnut mare owned by Sarah Mendoza. Jodie and Tixylix jumped two immaculate textbook rounds to give the team a double clear and a solid start.
Next to go was Jack Whitaker, aged 13 from Whatton, Nottingham, with his father Michael’s 9 year-old chestnut mare Zodianne Van De Doevenbree. Two stylish rounds from this combination saw them return across the finish line with yet another double clear for Great Britain.
Charlie Dawson, aged 16 from Goole, North Humberside, was the third rider to go and she partnered Nicola Holmes' 11 year-old skewbald gelding Claggan Gypsy Delight. In the first round, the pair became the drop score after accruing 8 faults, but they came back into the arena in the second round determined to produce a clear and they duly achieved this.
The team anchor was Charlotte Ash, aged 16 from Newcastle Upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear, with her mother Shirley’s 11 year-old bay gelding Aughnashammer. After producing a solid clear in the first round, they were unfortunate to add 4 faults to their score in the second round. However with this becoming the drop score, Great Britain were left on 0 faults.
