Courtney Young claimed the Nupafeed Supplements Senior Discovery Second Round at Speetley Equestrian Centre by the narrowest of margins with Double M Stud, Julian Mincher and Maxine Locke’s Double M Sensation at only their third show together.
Thirty-eight competitors came forward over the 1.05m track with 265 posting initial clears, these further reduced to 16 for the jump-off. It was a fast, hotly-contended class with Courtney edging ahead by only 0.03 seconds to claim victory on the Firkov Du Rouet x Up To Date Miltoo five-year-old mare bred by Julian Mincher.
“I’ve trained with Julian for several years but only started riding for him a month ago. Sensation is stabled with Julian in Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Leicestershire, and I’m still in Essex, but it works,” said Courtney. “She’s scopey and one for the future. We’ve clicked together quickly; she loves her job, loves winning and thrives on going fast in the jump-off.
“I was early to go but she’s so quick across the floor, she lands over a fence and she’s away and I think that gave us the edge to win.”
Phillip Curtis had to settle for second place on Madam Argento and Trudy Johnson filled third spot with Kohinoor I.
