Holly Gillott Wins Horse & Hound Senior Foxhunter Championship Qualification Spot

Bury Farm Equestrian Centre in Slapton, Buckinghamshire held one of the popular Horse & Hound Senior Foxhunter Second Rounds on Monday (1st June) and the class proved to be a key part of their Summer Festival Show, attracting a total of seventy-six starters.

Securing one of the two direct qualifying places on offer for the Horse & Hound Senior Foxhunter Championship Final at Horse of the Year Show was at the forefront of every starter’s mind and knowing that a treble clear would put them in a strong position, competitors jumped in each round with the aim of keeping the fences up.

After two well-fought rounds of competition, twelve combinations remained and then went forward in to the final jump off. Five horse and rider pairings were able to produce the all-important treble clear and the fastest of these came from the combination drawn last to go.

Holly Gillott, aged 26, from Loughborough, Leicestershire was the eventual victor on Elore, a 6 year-old bay mare owned by Gems McCormick. Having watched the other eleven remaining competitors go before her, Holly had the advantage of knowing exactly what she would she would need to do to win. Drawing on her jump off expertise, Holly produced another careful but quick round to cross through the finish on 40.89 seconds, beating all of the other competitors.

Second place was filled by 36 year-old Helen Tredwell from Finmere, Buckinghamshire on Philip Tuckwell’s 8 year-old chestnut mare Balouetta. They secured their place in the top two and in the Championship Final after producing their treble clear in 41.19 seconds

With the top two taking the direct qualifying tickets for the Horse & Hound Senior Foxhunter Championship Final, the combinations in third to fifth took home the chance to compete at The British Showjumping National Championships.
