Thirty-three horses and riders contested yesterday’s KBIS Insurance Senior British Novice Second Round at Codham Park Equestrian in Braintree, Essex and the class was well fought out by each and every starter.
Returning home with a treble clear was very much the aim of each competitor as this would secure a qualification place in the Championship Final at this summer’s British Showjumping National Championships.
From the initial starting field, fourteen combinations produced a double clear to go forward to the final jump off. Ten treble clears were subsequently delivered.
Victory was scooped by Katie Brookes from East Grinstead, West Sussex and she took the win on board her mother Sandra’s 6 year-old grey mare Voxlight. Drawn to go at the midway point in the jump off, Katie rode with accuracy and speed to produce a third foot perfect round in 43.60 seconds.
Commenting on her win, Katie said “I was concentrating on gaining my treble clear and I used my draw in the jump off to my advantage. It was beneficial being able to see combinations producing treble clears in quick times before me as I could see where the good turns were being made. I must admit that I went against Mum’s advice and pushed ‘Voxy’ against the clock. Thankfully it paid off and I was really pleased to have jumped the fastest clear round of the class.”
Lucy Brachet from Dover, Kent took second place with her own 8 year-old bay mare Develine II after this combination produced their treble clear in 44.10 seconds.
Jodie Hooper Slany from St Albans, Hertfordshire partnered her own 8 year-old chestnut gelding Day Tripper and they went on to take third place with their treble clear secured in 44.86 seconds.
Ten combinations from this second round will now go forward to the KBIS Insurance Senior British Novice Championship Final.

The British Showjumping National Championships 2015 will be hosted at the National Agricultural and Exhibition Centre (NAEC), Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire during the 11th – 16th August.
