Fifty-four combinations came forward to contest the seventh KBIS Insurance Senior British Novice Second Round on Sunday at Willow Banks Equestrian Centre in Claxby, Lincolnshire and it proved to be a well fought out class.
From the initial starting field, seventeen combinations produced two foot perfect rounds to progress into the final jump off. Each of the remaining competitors were then hoping to jump a treble clear in order to secure a qualification place in the Championship Final at this summer’s British Showjumping National Championships.
Nine treble clears were achieved in total and the fastest of these was delivered by Mark Thompson from Findern, Derby. Mark rode Tanina Rushton’s 7 year-old bay mare Double Dutch CKV and they secured victory after producing their treble clear in 40.38 seconds. Mark held the lead from around the halfway point in the jump off and the time proved to be good enough for the win.
Commenting on his win, Mark said “I was very pleased with Double Dutch CKV’s performance on Sunday. I asked a number of questions of her, which included a few tight turns, and she responded brilliantly.”
Second place went to Anna Strawson from Sleaford, Lincolnshire on Kelly Hancy’s 6 year-old bay gelding Clarentino. This combination clocked up their treble clear in 41.32 seconds and this saw them take second place comfortably.
Chelsea Skelton from Gainsborough, Lincolnshire took third with Janet Elvin’s 5 year-old chestnut stallion TJ Talent after they produced their treble clear in 45.45 seconds.
Nine combinations from this second round will now go forward to the KBIS Insurance Senior British Novice Championship Final.
