Lily Dean Jumps to Victory in Squibb Group Pony Foxhunter Second Round at Bicton Arena

A Squibb Group Pony Foxhunter Second Round was held as part of the Pony Premier Show at Bicton Arena in Salterton, Devon on Sunday 7th June and it was eventually won by Lily Dean and Mister Seamus.

Competition was fierce for the three direct qualifying places on offer for the Squibb Group Pony Foxhunter Championship Final at Horse of the Year Show and of the twenty-eight starters, six made it through into final jump off. Each and every one of the remaining six competitors would have been hoping to secure a treble clear and three went on to do so.

The fastest treble clear of the class was delivered by 14 year-old Lily Dean from Malvern, Worcestershire on her mother Rose’s 14 year-old bay gelding Mister Seamus. Building on her good run of form in rounds one and two of the class, Lily ensured that she produced yet another clean and clear round to complete her treble clear in 44.14 seconds. This gave Lily a good advantage over her nearest rival.

Second place went to 15 year-old Emma Crawford from Cupar, Fife and she partnered her mother Lynne’s 12 year-old grey gelding Stars Surprise. They produced their treble clear early on in the jump off and their solid performance saw them take their place in the top two in a time of 47.89 seconds.

The third and final treble clear was produced by 14 year-old Joseph Fernyhough from Newtown, Powys and Midnight Milly, a 17 year-old dark bay mare owned by Christopher Biddle. Their final clear round in a time of 51.59 seconds was enough ensure them of a place in the Championship Final.

With the three direct qualifying tickets for the Squibb Group Pony Foxhunter Championship Final at the Horse of the Year Show having been secured by those with treble clears, the combinations in fourth and fifth took home the chance to compete in the Squibb Group Pony Foxhunter Masters at the forthcoming British Showjumping National Championships.
