Wellington M Shines in the Royal Highland International Stairway

Friday 19 June 2015

The fourth leg of the International Stairway held earlier today at the Royal Highland show saw twenty-eight combinations come forward to contest the class with all of them trying to pick up some of the all-important points on offer.

It was nine combinations that managed to put in a first round clear to progress into the jump off and this jump off caused much mischief as it was only two of the nine that then managed to put in another clear.

The victory went to Kerry Brennan from Chesterfield, Derbyshire with Liane Smith’s 12 year-old bay gelding Wellington M. Fifth to go in the jump off, this combination produced the fastest double clear and crossing the finish line in 48.37 seconds was enough to secure them the win and maximum points.

Producing the other double clear of the class and taking second place was Northampton’s Tim Stockdale with Ann Basey-Fisher’s 9 year-old bay gelding Bling Bling IV. This combination stopped the clock in 53.35 seconds.

Third place went to Chloe Winchester from Eye, Suffolk with her mother Gillian’s 12 year-old bay mare Avoca Valkyrie after she picked up four faults across the jump off course stopping the clock in 48.90 seconds.

Tim Davies from Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk finished in fourth riding Barrett Watson’s 9 year-old bay gelding Braveheart V with their time of 56.86 seconds on 4 faults. He also went on to take 7th place with his second ride, the 13 year-old bay gelding Valentijn O also owned by Barrett Watson.

The series now moves to the Royal Norfolk Show on the 1st July
