Daisy Day leads the British Charge in the Pony Grand Prix of Linz-Ebelsberg, Austria
Tuesday 06 May 2025

Britain’s pony riders, winners of the Nations Cup earlier in the week, once again dominated the Pony Grand Prix Competition, filling the top five placings.
Thirty-two riders came forward over the 1.30m track in the test against the clock, with nine advancing to the jump-off including six British combinations. The class delivered tension until the last second as young talents once again demonstrated all their abilities - fast, precise and nerve-racking.
Raphaela Dawson and MHS Glow (owned by Karan Dawson) were first out for Great Britain and produced a foot-perfect steady clear to go into the lead, but this was short lived as Jack Waddington, riding Jacqueline Barrs’ Conella, followed with another clear, knocking almost 2 seconds off the clock.
The tension ramped up as Lucy Capper came out and produced a quicker time again with Nicola and Robert Capper’s Oscar Van De Beekerheide before Darcy Breen and One Sahara, owned by Breen Equestrian, sped straight to the top of the placings, the first pair to go clear in under 40 seconds.
The competition wasn’t over, and it was Daisy Day, riding Claire Day’s Shannon’s Joy, who used her penultimate draw to maximum advantage to lead the British charge. The pair stormed home in an unbeatable time of 35.70 seconds, securing their place on the top step of the podium.

Charlie Atkinson is riding high as he claimed victory in the Young Rider’s Grand Prix with Sarah Kane’s Be Qvickly Star in Austria.
Twenty-eight combinations came forward over the testing 1.45m track as only two advanced to the jump-off, Great Britain claiming both places.
Jumping a steady round, Charlie and the nine-year-old mare, with whom Charlie took on the ride at the end of 2024, just lightly tapped out a pole in the first part of the double but it would be enough for them to secure the victory. Hallie Currie and Victoria Norris’ Feel the Wind Semilly were also flying the flag for Great Britain as the only other pair in the jump-off but opted to retire after accumulating eight faults.

Great Britain also featured in the Junior Grand Prix as Ellen Hood jumped into third place aboard Karen Hood’s High Quality.
Fifty-four combinations contended the 1.40m track with five unlocking the clear needed to advance into the jump-off, Great Britain securing two of the spaces.
First to jump, Chloe Mae Morris and Atomadeus DPS, owned by Du Pouquet Stud, rode smooth lines around the shortened track, just tapping out a pole in the second part of the double, finishing an eventual 5th.
Ellen and the 13-year-old mare, High Quality, used their mid-draw to swiftly navigate the course and come home clear and just 0.11 seconds behind Switzerland’s Philipa Bisange in second place. Italy’s Giorgia Baldi ultimately could not be caught, finishing 2.50 seconds ahead of the rest of the field.
