Great Britain takes second in the Pony Nations Cup in Compiegne

Great Britain’s pony team were only one fence behind the winners to take equal second in the Pony Nations Cup Competition in Compiegne, France.

Seven teams faced a 1.30m track and it was close all the way with Britain leading at the halfway stage on a team total of four faults.

Pathfinder Izabella Rogers made just one mistake in round one with the 11-year-old Neil 55 but improved on the four faults by storming home clear in round two.

Harriet Hodge boosted morale with a clear round in the first round on Mark Hodge’s 9-year-old Little Charlie, but it didn’t go according to plan in round two and the pair suffered an unfortunate fall in the double.

Sula von Bülow also supplied a first-round clear on Sharifa Von Bülow’s 15-year-old Cul Ban Mistress while one error second time out returned four faults.

It all rested on anchor rider Tabitha Kyle but the 13-year-old Atomic Du Bary, owned by TJ Hall Ltd, came home on four faults in each round.

The team finished on a 12-fault total to stand in second alongside France and Belgium. Ireland claimed the win with a fence in hand on a total of eight faults.

“They were very good in the first round and led the way with one fence in hand after round one but it went a little wrong in round two and Harriet was very unfortunate to fall in the double but all in all, I was pleased with the first team competition of 2023,” said Chef d’Equipe Clare Whitaker.
